How Early?

So its 4:30 in the morning and I've been awake, just lying in bed for an hour. I'm tired, but can't get back to sleep. I think I need some sleep enhancing drugs! Its moments like these when I think I might as well get a paper route.

I have nothing profound to say, but felt like its time to put something on my blog... although I really like the picture of my peeps at the top of my blog. They are so cute and fluffy. (I don't really enjoy eating peeps though... its my opinion that marshmallows need to be eaten with chocolate. Just like every other food!)

Here are a few moments in my life today that I'd like to share! More fun and happy than sad, but I'll start with sad first.

Sad moment # 1. Zane has been sick and lying on the coach all weekend with a fever. I've enjoyed my snuggle time with him, but its very depressing seeing my little energizer bunny lying glossy eyed and nearly comatose for 3 days! Monday he was better and back to his normal self. Then Tuesday he woke up and his fever had spiked again. We had another day of snuggling. Man! Can we ever get over being sick in our house? I'm not a neat freak, but I feel like I want to scrub all my kids with Clorox! Is there a bug bomb we can use in the house for germs?

Sad moment # 2. I looked in the mirror and realized that a pair of my jeans have turned into saggy "mom" jeans. This is slightly different than the "nanny" jeans that Deanna blogged about earlier this week. Check out the SNL commercial for mom jeans and you'll know what I mean! Only rather than my jeans being snug up to my armpits, they have lost all structure and are really saggy. Not so flattering for my derriere. After 3 kids and a lazy lifestyle, I need all the help I can get! I think its time to go shopping for jeans.

Fun moment #1. I have to give Amanda props. It took sheer bravery to blog about her "snart." Its funny to hear about it on the phone from her... even funnier to read it online! ;) Love ya!

Fun moment #2. I was up in the middle of the night last night too. Due to my head cold and Cannon having a hard time sleeping, I was lying on the recliner trying to sleep. I heard the pitter patter of little feet run into the kitchen... then a chair moving along the floor... then some rustling that sounded suspiciously like our candy bucket on the fridge. I caught Kyah raiding the candy supply at 3 am! I thought it was kind of funny. Can't sneak anything past me! (Especially the rustling sound of candy wrappers).

Fun moment #3. I was running errands the other day and had Cannon and my nephew Tanner with me. I stopped at the house for 5 minutes to pick something up and the boys ran to the backyard and climbed on the trampoline. They were having a great time together and I took some snapshots of them. When I was trying to decide what to blog about I ran across the pictures and had a good laugh. There are some good ones of the boys laughing and smiling, but I thought this was the funniest.

Fun moment #4. Kyah has been out playing with her friends all afternoon. They have been outside most of the day, although its sunny, but very very cold. They have been in our backyard, in our front yard, at the park and riding bikes. She stopped in the house every hour or so and I just loved seeing her. She was happy, excited, pink cheeked and her hair is was all crazy and frizzing out of her ponytail. Every time time I saw her I just thought she looked so cute. That image was the perfect description of a child having a good time outside. Hooray for sunshine!

Great moment #5. Cannon didn't fight me today. No fits always makes it a good day! He wanted to help me make dinner, so he helped stir the stroganoff and pour the noodles in the boiling water. He was too close to the stove for my comfort, but I think he learned about how hot it is without getting burned. It was a good moment for us!

Great moment #6. This was actually yesterday, but I had Kyah's school parent/teacher conference. I remember my mom saying that she dreaded going to the parent/teacher conferences when we were kids. I can imagine with having 4 bright, but very active and more often devious boys! :) Not to mention my own childhood! I know this time of year is also stressful for the teachers. So I go into them trying to be open minded, seeing what the teacher is seeing and try to keep it a little light hearted. So this is why my parent/teacher conference for Kyah is so great for me. Nothing makes you prouder than when people compliment your own kids. She has been blessed with really great teachers, but I am so thankful she is such a great kid! She is still shy to volunteer, is more often than not in her own little world, but overall she is doing great in school. After all our years of causing grief for our teachers... how did we get so blessed!

Fun moment #7. Why do the kids always have such dirty faces and clothes when I get fun pictures of them?

Fun moment #8. Grandpa was hurrying to leave for work one morning and commented on how pretty Kyah was. He stopped, grabbed the camera and said "I have to have a picture with you because you look so pretty!" What a way to make a girl feel good at the beginning of her day!

Fun moment #9. My parents watched the kids while I was at Kyah's parent/teacher conference. Right as I was leaving the school it began hailing. I arrived at my parents house and my mom was kneeling backwards on the couch looking out the back window with the kids all around her doing the same. She was showing the kids the hail in the backyard. Her face was bright and excited and she looked so happy. The kids were so excited along with her. It was a small moment, but I hope that image will stay in my mind for a long time!

Thank goodness for great parents!

I knew you were up early when I got your email and my phone beeped telling me I had a new message at 5:30 am. I love that I am #1 on your list of fun and sad things. Which one am I? Sad or funny?

BTW--it looks like Zane is wearing lederhosen in his dirty face picture :)

Amanda, I thought the same thing about that picture of Zane for a split second.
Kris, your story of mom on the couch with the kids brought tears to my eyes. I love moments like those! Spencer is DYING to go to grandmas but we are trying very hard to stay away until we're better.
