He's Alive!

This is Gary.

We had forgotten about Gary since the summer. We didn't water or feed him. His little box has been on the counter, covered with papers and junk. Nearly every month we said "What should we do with Gary?" "Do you think he is still alive?" About two weeks ago we decided he must have died from our lack of attention, so we agreed to discretely throw him away.

But as I dumped him in the garbage, I could tell he was still alive. With the combination of the the Christmas spirit and my conscience I couldn't leave him in the garbage can. Sure enough, after dropping water and a carrot into his house he came out of his shell. He's been out ever since. I am amazed! This is the longest we have ever seen him hibernate.

So if you want a pet that is extremely easy to take care of and hard to kill... get a snail! You can literally ignore it for months.

It's not often that I want to laugh and cry at the same time but Gary's story makes me want to...of course it could just be my time of the month! :) So I will see Gary next week! I can't hardly wait!
